Night Out With A Purpose - FUN Super Hero Night

Posted by Admin,

Last night we had a great time with our friends from Providence Family Support Center as we hosted their monthly FUN (Family Unity Night) night at their great location in Brighton Heights.

Our group sponsored the event as part of our Night Out With A Purpose program where a group of adults roll up their sleeves and volunteer, then finish the night socializing over a meal or apps.

Special thanks to Don, Karen, Steve, Sharon, Kevin and Joumana who helped prepare dinner and then hosted some fun 'Super Hero' activities for the kids - focusing on the need to be a hero for your family by being kind, respectful and involved.

It's clear that the adults had as much fun as the kids - both during the event and then sharing some great food at Wheelfish (635 Sangree Road, 15237) run by dear friends of our Foundation.

We'll be back for more FUN and hope to continue to expand our circle as adults take the lead to be good examples for the kids that notice our actions!

Night Out With A Purpose - Special Olympics - Bocce

Posted by Admin,

Last night about a dozen of us partnered with Special Olympics in Perrysville to help coach bocce with our new friends - it was a great night all around. This "Night Out With A Purpose" is our way of engaging adults to volunteer more to set a good example for their children. We're coupling service with social time to help build Emma's Peace Gang, our volunteer movement.

Stay tuned for more opportunities later this summer. We'd love you to join us!

Henry's List update for April 27, 2016

Posted by Admin,

Today marks the end of our first wave of Henry's List fulfillments - a trial run if you will.

Our friend Dave joined us today as we picked up a great reclining couch and chair at Dottie & John's (two empty nesters that are downsizing) and delivered to a family in the Manchester section of Pittsburgh. The timing of this delivery was perfect, we have been searching for family room furniture (got some couches and some chairs - but not matched sets) and were starting to stress - but Dottie's call came in at the right time. She was referred by her Realtor who is in a 'network' with our friend Tamara - the connections keep building. We continue to be amazed to see how this is coming together and we're starting to realize that we're being guided on the correct path. Feels good.

Later in the day, John, Megan and Noah joined us as we went to South Butler to 'buy' a used gas stove and deliver to the family in Perrysville that has moved us so much. We were unable to find a donor for this unique situation and an angel came forward to offer to purchase the second hand appliance to give this young family more hope. Obviously, when our trailer pulled up to their door there were tears of joy shed. Further indication that the love of our friends/followers is being directed to where it is needed most.

And so we're ready to regroup with our new partner Providence Connections in Brighton Heights to see what the future will hold for us - we feel like we're ready to expand the list of needs and start the cycle again.

Henry's List update for April 23, 2016

Today we were joined by Tammie, Celeste & Bill as we took a 6x12 trailer full of furniture to our friends in Perrysville. Three beds, a dining room table with chairs, 3 bikes and a loveseat (and more!) to help fill in some of the gaps at their new home. All donated with the givers being aware that their offering will go directly to someone in need. We continue to be amazed as others join the circle and not only donate their love to families in need, but engage with us as we deliver the love and complete the journey.

The kids that we visited were so happy and appreciative their lives continue to be improved through the love of others a trailer, trunk or truckload at a time. New DVDs were loved as were the beds (complete with linens and new pillows). The oldest girl loved the purple sheets her favorite color. What a great connection!

We continue to get messages that were on the right track todays were from the oldest. When asked about her interests she showed a top that she designed and sewed, and she noted that it would be a bit easier with a sewing machine.

We have one from Emma that Santa brought when she was in middle school and went down the same path of creativity. Its obvious to us where that machine needs to be right now. Providing the tools and inspiration to a young girl in a family thats trying to keep up.

From your family to theirs Henrys List brings the love.

A quick stop in Coraopolis to give a newish 24 flat screen TV to a single mom with 2 kids. Newly in a home thats she is now renting, there hasnt been enough money to replace the broken TV and the one that has been borrowed from a friend was give back just this morning. Our phone call came at the right time and were not surprised.

Nor were we when our new friend showed us her family room painted all black as a canvas with an awesome tie-dye design on the ceiling. Her therapist told her to work with art and music to help her cope again not surprised. Nor were we when she told us that deer visit her back door daily looking for apples. Were on the right path and so happy to all of you that have helped with donations to Henrys List and help to spread the story to your friends.

Another family helped through your love.
